A sales person, who lacks either empathy or ego drive, can never sell. Do you agree?

Empathy is to be able to feel for the customer, understand his needs, recommend a solution, and think from his point of view. Ego Drive is to think about yourself, and your company, your needs and the company’s and the drive for achievement.  A balance of these two will make you a good salesman.  Do you agree?
